Pet Quarantine in Malaysia: Keep Your Dog’s Diet Consistent During Relocation

Relocating your pet to Malaysia can be stressful — not just for you, but also for your furry family member. Long flights, new environments, and quarantine routines can cause anxiety, appetite loss, or digestive issues if your pet’s diet changes suddenly.

At DF Dog Food, we specialize in fresh, customized meals for pets in quarantine. Whether your dog or cat is staying at an approved quarantine center or boarding facility, we can prepare meals that match the food they were used to in their home country — using human‑grade ingredients and vet‑formulated recipes for complete nutritional balance.

Why Diet Continuity Matters During Quarantine

Prevent Digestive Upset

A sudden change in food can trigger vomiting, diarrhea, or refusal to eat during an already stressful quarantine period.

Reduce Anxiety

Familiar smells and textures help pets feel safer in a new, unfamiliar place — like the quarantine center.

Maintain Appetite

When pets are stressed, they often lose appetite. Keeping their diet the same encourages normal eating habits.

Support Immune Health

Good nutrition during quarantine supports overall health and helps your pet adjust to Malaysia’s climate and environment.

FAQ Section

How long is the pet quarantine period in Malaysia?

The quarantine duration in Malaysia depends on the country your pet is arriving from, as well as their vaccination and health documentation:

  • Category 1 Countries (Rabies-Free):
Pets from countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, Singapore may be exempt from quarantine if all documents are in order (import permit, vaccinations, microchip, health certificate).

  • Category 2 Countries (Controlled Rabies Risk):
Pets from Japan, Taiwan, Canada, most of Europe, USA typically require a 7-day quarantine at an approved facility, provided all vaccinations (especially rabies) are valid and up-to-date.

  • Category 3 Countries (High Rabies Risk):
Pets from countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, South Africa are subject to a mandatory 10–14 day quarantine, even if vaccinated.

✳️ Note: The Malaysian Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) will determine the final quarantine duration. An import permit, updated vaccination records, and a microchip are mandatory for all pets.

? To avoid stress during quarantine, we recommend keeping your pet’s diet consistent with fresh food they’re familiar with. DF Dog Food can help match their current diet — just send us the details!

Can I visit my pet during quarantine?

Yes! Most approved quarantine centers in Malaysia allow food deliveries for pets — especially if your pet has a special diet, medical condition, or is a picky eater.

At DF Dog Food, we work with expat pet owners and relocation agencies to deliver freshly prepared meals that match what your pet is used to eating overseas — keeping their diet consistent and reducing stress during quarantine.

What types of pets require quarantine when entering Malaysia?

Only dogs and cats are commonly permitted entry as pets. Quarantine is required unless exempted by origin country and documentation.

Exemptions may apply to pets coming from countries officially rabies-free (e.g., UK, Singapore) with complete health documentation. Always verify with DVS Malaysia or your relocation agent for updated requirements.

Can you replicate my pet’s diet from overseas?

Absolutely. We specialize in customized pet meals based on your pet’s usual diet, whether you were feeding them raw, kibble, fresh cooked, grain-free, or medical diets.

Just send us:

  • A list of ingredients

  • Any allergies or vet instructions

We’ll replicate the nutritional profile using human-grade local ingredients in Malaysia, adjusted for local quarantine center regulations.

What happens if my pet doesn't eat during quarantine?

Diet changes and stress can cause appetite loss during quarantine. That’s why consistency is key.

If your pet stops eating:

  • Most centers will inform the owner or relocation agent

  • You can arrange for alternative meals (like DF Dog Food’s gentle recipes)

  • Your vet may be consulted if symptoms persist

We prepare high-palatability meals to encourage eating even in anxious or sensitive pets.

Do you deliver to pet quarantine centers in Malaysia?

Yes, we do! DF Dog Food delivers to major quarantine stations and boarding centers across Selangor, KLIA, Johor, and Penang.

We can coordinate directly to your agent to ensure:

  • Timely delivery

  • Proper labeling per pet (Order number / Pet Name)

  • Storage instructions followed

You can WhatsApp us with your pet’s name, arrival date, and location to get started.
